He has shaken off a bad attitude to have his fairytale run to this year’s French Open, and now Nick Kyrgios has ruffled more feathers with some off-the-court news.

In a deeply personal social media post, the Australian tennis player announced he was buying up cottages in the hinterlands of Wellington, New Zealand and would not be playing there in future.

“I just want to be a little selfish on this trip,” he said. “Escape this crazy life and instead of coming back in a few weeks I am going to vacation in NZ just me and my dog.

“Cottages are going to be opened soon, stay tuned!”

Kyrgios first traveled to New Zealand for a funeral last year, which inspired him to buy the land, he told the Australian newspaper The Age.

Earlier this month, Kyrgios spoke candidly to The Telegraph about his behavior on court and off.

He was dropped from the Wimbledon doubles tournament due to his off-court behavior, which he insisted was due to stress.
